Last week marked the first official meeting of a new transportation planning group representing Bozeman, Belgrade and Gallatin County.
The Gallatin Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization, commonly referred to as the MPO, is forming as a result of the city of Bozeman passing the 50,000 population threshold mark in the 2020 census. As a result of the change, Bozeman is now considered a metropolitan area, and the federal government requires it to form an MPO.
Though its formation is mandated, several officials involved are excited about the prospect of increased collaborative planning.
